Description

Fiber Technician I

It’s hard not to marvel at the magic of fiber optics: teeny-tiny superhighways woven through cities, laced under the ocean, spanning the entire globe. All the world’s information shared through beams of light. Used by countless people, but understood by few. Including you.

You’re passionate about fiber optics. Not only in theory, but in practice. You’re more than a fiber enthusiast—you’re a full-fledged fiber surgeon.

At Cox Communications, we think that’s incredible. In fact, we’re seeking people like you to help maintain our state-of-the-art Cox Communications Optical Fiber Network. What it really is: keeping people working, kids learning, and loved ones connected. Which we think is pretty incredible, too.

What You’ll Do

As a Fiber Technician I , you’ll be responsible for the integrity of the fiber system and network infrastructure, from transmitter to subscriber point-of-service connection. Forget staring at a screen all day. You’ll be out in the field, splicing, servicing, making repairs and practicing other forms of fiber surgery. You’ll also:

  • Provide maintenance for the fiber system by performing Quality Control assessment of enclosures to verify high levels of accuracy on all fiber assignments and labeling of fiber trays. Evaluate fiber optics system constructed internally or by outside contractors using Cox Communications Fiber Optic Cable Construction Standards, and logs/reports discrepancies for potential rework.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy on all fiber splice assignments worked by performing pre-checks to verify traffic and accurate labeling to maintain fiber birth assignments with 100% accuracy.
  • Respond to system outage by diagnosing and repairing fiber system damages, utilizing established restoration techniques & processes.
  • Use approved industry test procedures for path losses and continuity to ensure integrity of fiber system and documents findings.
  • Use proper safety equipment and procedures according to Cox Communications established standards.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance is performed on daily by inspecting vehicle and equipment. Report needed repairs to immediate supervisor using appropriate procedures.
  • Provide technical support for the Maintenance and MTC departments as needed.
  • Accurately complete all departmental logs, reports and paperwork on a daily basis.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with subscribers, the general public, co-workers, contractors and other outside contacts.

What’s In It For You?

Really good question, and we have some good answers that we hope you like.

  • We want you to feel cared for and respected (like you do with our customers), and that starts with Cox’s highly competitive and other compensation perks (401k + company matching, comprehensive medical benefits, etc.).  We also offer Cox discounted services in specific Cox markets, tuition reimbursement for academic pursuits, adoption assistance, paid time off to volunteer, childcare and eldercare resources, pet insurance and much more.
  • Good work should be rewarded, and not just with a healthy paycheck.  The Cox culture is one that values people more than technology, so it’s our goal to make sure you feel recognized for your contributions.  It’s also important to work alongside colleagues who “get you.”  At Cox, you’ll find a workplace where relationships are crafted with care and successes are celebrated with high fives. We strive to create an environment where you can do you, and everyone from leadership to new hires can support and feel supported.
  • Growth is a good thing, and you’ll have opportunities to learn and train so you can sharpen your skills and explore opportunities across the Cox family of businesses that will continue to challenge and empower you. In the future, you may have the opportunity to cultivate customer relationships in other sectors where we operate like cleantech, health care and new forms of transportation mobility.
