Description

  • Supervises the preparation, documentation, and disbursement of payroll checks for the company’s hourly, and salaried employees
  • Coaches and develops the performance of the payroll team to ensure they have the capabilities required to meet or exceed expectations
  • Applies functional and technical expertise and knowledge of payroll and time management to provide on-the-job training to team members
  • Ensures all appropriate taxes, deductions, and contributions are accurately withheld and W-2s correctly issued.
  • Maintains earnings and deductions records
  • Files required reports and makes payments to government agencies, insurance carriers, and other organizations/individuals
  • Review payroll safeguards and controls regularly to ensure accurate pay results
  • Coordinate with Accounting to balance the general ledger to the payroll register
  • Provides recommendations for the development, documentation and enhancement of the company's payroll systems, policies, and procedures
  • Resolves complex inquiries and handles issues escalated by team members in a timely manner
  • Leads team meetings to cascade information, coordinate efforts and communicate changes in direction, policies, expectations and performance against service & quality goals, processes, and standards
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure that a high-quality employee experience is achieved and to resolve payroll system and process related problems

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in payroll operations. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 3 years’ experience in payroll operations; a master's degree and 1 year of experience; or a Ph.D. and up to 1 year of experience

  • Strong orientation towards a culture of customer service and timely issue resolution
  • Demonstrated experience using Windows-based PCs, Microsoft Office in a work setting, strong MS Excel is essential
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Kronos or a similar payroll system is required. Experience with Workday payroll highly preferred

Preferred: 

  • AS/AA or BS/BA degree in related discipline strongly desired
  • 3+ year supervisory experience
  • 5+ year experience in payroll 
  • Experience handling escalations from customers
  • Specific knowledge and proficiency with Workday payroll
