Cox Communications is looking for a Senior Wireless RF Design Engineer to aid our Wireless Engineering team in the deployment of our state-of-the-art 5G NR Stand Alone networks. We are looking for engineers with insatiable thirst for new and innovative technology who will embrace projects within the Wireless Engineering team that includes the creation of RF Designs for future FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) Areas of Interest (AOI) for both 3GPP and alternative RAN equipment vendors and support Cox Wireless Implementation team’s efforts with network deployment. Individual should be capable of developing full RF design deliverables, direct RF Design firms in developing final designs for future AOI and collaboration with internal boundary partners for tower selection, Cox fiber transport and support design/deployment of microwave backhaul. The Sr. Communications – Network Engineer will have proven wireless industry expertise and knowledge in successfully driving projects to completion by working in tandem with a Lead Engineer who will be accountable for engineering project oversight and will report to the Wireless Engineering Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work in tandem with RAN Lead engineer to create RF Designs for future FWA markets for both 3GPP and alternative wireless RAN equipment types. Develop preliminary RF design and direct RF Design firms in developing final RF network designs as well as collaborating with Cox boundary partners in the deployment of FWA networks and their associated towers, transport, and microwave systems.
- Design, build, and test activities associated with new products, hardware, software and feature/functionality within our wireless use cases that would include the use of following platforms and tools for various unlicensed and licensed solutions: RAN, FWA-CPE, RF test / spectrum analyzer equipment, RF propagation tools, network traffic analytics, CBRS SAS vendor portal and interference mitigation tools.
- Clearly understand technical problems and define solutions to mitigate those problems.
- Methodically scope, troubleshoot, diagnose, and fix complex problems as required on Cox wireless networks while minimizing customer impacts and outages.
- Partner with peer Engineering team members to gain in-depth understanding of proposed changes to hardware, software or configurations and associated implications.
- Quickly understand preliminary product/platform concepts or high-level designs and subsequently author technical requirements as necessary based on those understandings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and 4 years' experience as a Technical Engineer in the Wireless Communications Industry. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master’s degree and 2 years’ experience; a Ph.D. and up to 1 year of experience; or 16 years’ experience in a related field
- Foundational knowledge in LTE and 5G NR 3GPP standards, protocol, and wireless OEM architectures
- Hands on experience utilizing industry leading RF propagation tools and having designed many RAN networks inclusive of greenfield wireless networks for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 wireless network operator.
- Network capacity/traffic planning experience
- Ability to create scripts and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and 5 years of experience as a technical engineer in the Wireless Communications Industry
- Specific experience in the design, optimization, performance management or operating of large-scale service provider wireless networks or experience with a Wireless OEM vendor that supported its Mobile Network Operating customers with broad wireless mobility technology experience that should include LTE and 5G NR RAN networks.
- Background in network performance management of wireless networks responsible for improvement and maintenance of network KPI’s through data analysis, RF testing and fault isolation.
- Knowledge in scripting languages like shell, Python and Perl.
- Strong Ericsson or Nokia RAN experience preferred.
