The AJC’s mission is to be the most essential and engaging source of news and information for the people of Atlanta, of Georgia and the South. To achieve that mission, we are investing and transforming our organization from a storied daily newspaper into a modern media company.

Beat description:

Georgia is now the third-largest state behind California and New York for film and TV production, fueled by generous tax credits passed in 2008 for content producers such as Amazon, Disney, Paramount, Sony, and Netflix and Atlanta’s own Tyler Perry. TV and film generated $4 billion in direct spending in Georgia for 2021 fiscal year period, according to the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

If you are selected, you will take readers behind the scenes to learn about the factors driving this growth, from key executives for major companies to entrepreneurial creatives, from public policies and tax incentives to changing consumer habits. You will work closely with another reporter who covers Atlanta-based or Atlanta-adjacent entertainers and celebrities as a beat. It’s been said Atlanta’s biggest export has become culture.
