Description

Cox Communications is currently seeking a Senior Network Planning Engineer , whose primary responsibility is focused on innovative and creative ways around network planning including creation of network plans to support the growth of the network. The primary responsibilities of this role will be overseeing and identifying capacity needs, analyzing data to understand network usage, build executable plan, build bill of materials and spearheading major programs from inception to creating end-to-end tactical plans. Furthermore, this role will emphasize the integration of technical expertise from Video, Data and Telephony to support converged service capacity.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:   

  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with multiple boundary partners at every level to gather input and incorporate into planning methodologies

  • Build models to support network forecasting scenarios and calculations

  • Lead and manage all planning activities to support POI to POR process, communicate plans with broader audience, and achieve buy-in across cross functional teams

  • Performs advance range of network analysis. Build executive level analysis reports and present to senior team on findings to support the business

  • Translate strategic objectives into technical requirements for the network domain

  • Working knowledge of OSI model, MPLS, HFC, Fiber, PON, DOCSIS and/or ISIS

  • Develops reports and documentation to communicate results clearly and succinctly

  • Understand limitations of different network hardware and software

  • Identifies, researches, and resolves discrepancies in analytical procedures or cross-functional methods

  • Independently performs and develops budgets and financials. Lead tool development and advance data analytics to ensure capacity requirement and forecast assumptions

  • Advance level understanding of equipment ordering - including working with Supply Chain


Related Tasks:

  • Manage all internal modeling tools such as INP Catalog Suite, CFGM and BOMA

  • Lead and manage sprints and development teams

  • Coordinate with teams across Engineering organization to enhance capability to support POI to POR process

  • Work with corporate and regional engineers to operationalize and document capacity plans

  • Work with EMO, INP, Engineering, Construction and Finance teams to create and execute budget

  • Work with Atlanta engineering teams and vendors to develop long term plans.

  • Interprets operational requirements and methods and procedures for inclusion in studies and analysis, and to conduct root causes analyses and make recommendations to improve the business processes

  • Provides recommendations for operational efficiencies and process improvements and assists in policy development to support change initiatives

  • Conducts statistical analyses to create actionable insights for department leadership

  • With guidance, presents data and provides recommendations to department leadership for their use in making operational decisions, identifying process improvements, and developing policy development to support change initiatives

  • Provides input to leadership on performance issues and operational process improvements

  • Ability to prioritize work and remain productive whether in office or remote

  • Ability to simplify complex concepts and analysis results for Executive review

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline(engineering, operations research, computer science) and 4 years’ experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master’s degree and 2 years’ experience; a Ph.D. and up to 1 year of experience; or 16 years’ experience in a related field

  • Experience with home router/gateways. Knowledge of Wi-Fi 6, and 6E including wireless encryption (WPA2/WPA3, WPA, WEP), WPS, DFS, and WMM

  • Knowledge of DOCSIS and fiber specifications, protocols, test procedures, and debugging experience in Unix/Linux environments, and networking protocols.

  • Advanced knowledge of Video Networking, IP and DOCSIS3.0, 3.1 & 4.0 Experience activating/maintaining CPE per the DOCSIS, PacketCable, and SNMP specifications.

  • Robust communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills

  • Extensive experience researching and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data

  • Extensive experience working with large data sets, and recommending innovative analytical solutions

  • Extensive experience in data analysis and methods

  • Experience developing automated reporting

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications in a work setting with strong knowledge in Excel

Preferred:

  • 5+ years of experience in related field, focused on DOCSIS, HFC network

  • Experience working in communications industry with a focus on telecommunication
