Description
The Cox Family Office, located in Atlanta, GA, and dedicated to serving the shareholders of a fifth-generation privately held company, is currently seeking a Director of Tax & Generational Planning. The ideal candidate will have deep tax technical experience, a fluent understanding of wealth transfer and estate planning concepts, demonstrated gift and estate tax audit experience, and exceptional executive communication skills.
Vital to the role is the ability to understand complex structures, identify solutions for related party issues, build internal capacity to prepare complex analyses, effectively partner with external advisors, lead, execute, and communicate on projects, think critically, problem-solve, and prioritize shareholder needs while supporting broader functional objectives.
This individual will report to the VP of Tax and Generational Planning and collaborate cross-functionally within the family office and operating business.
Position Responsibilities:

In conjunction with VP, Tax and Generational Planning, design a full range of proactive gift, estate, trust, and charitable planning strategies that seek to minimize estate taxes, enhance asset protection, and plan for the succession of privately held shares.

Promote continuous development of direct reports and participate in knowledge-sharing sessions with internal partners across the organization.

Perform modeling and evaluation of various tax planning alternatives and legislation changes to determine impact and assist in recommending optimal alternative(s).

Monitor external tax environment to ensure timely identification of pending changes in legislation, tax authority assessing policies, and evolving jurisprudence.

Assist in estate and gift tax audits and lead estate administration efforts.

Participate in the development of annual wealth review materials.

Collaborate with outside tax and legal advisors and partners within the operating business.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 10 years of experience; Master of accounting or Master of taxation and 8 years of experience. The right candidate could also have a different combination of education and experience in a related field.

CPA required.

8-10 years of experience at a public accounting firm in a tax role or similar experience in a tax role at a family office.

Demonstrated experience in advising ultra-high-net-worth clients, family offices, and private trust companies.

Working knowledge of tax issues in gift, estate, and trust tax planning.

Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
