Description

Cox Enterprises is hiring an energetic individual for the role of State Tax Manager who will utilize strategic and analytical skills to develop a comprehensive understanding of the Company’s state income tax function, primarily focused on planning and audit. Individuals will gain knowledge of all of Cox’s lines of business and will collaborate with people both internal and external to the Tax Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine the impact of state tax technical issues that arise during tax planning, transactions, audits, compliance, and legislative changes.

  • Lead development, analysis, modeling, and implementation of strategic state planning concepts and conclude and document state positions.

  • Provide guidance for mergers and acquisitions, including diligence review and entity structuring.

  • Partner with the Legal team to drive organizational operating decisions

  • Develop strategic responses for state audit information requests and notices.

  • Review state audit assessments and drive strategy discussions around settlement opportunities.

  • Monitor state legislation for Company impact.

  • Review unitary and separate state income tax returns as needed.

  • Review multi-state and unitary apportionment for planning and transactional impact.

Qualifications:

Minimum

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting and 6 years of experience in a related field, including at least 1 year in a manager role. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master’s degree in accounting and 4 years of experience in a related field.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex tax concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Self-starter with leadership potential and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Experience with tax software applications such as OneSource

Preferred

  • CPA

  • Public accounting experience

  • 1 year in a manager role


Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $97,100.00 - $161,800.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
