As a Lead Detail Technician at Manheim, you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining shop morale and ensuring the smooth operation of daily tasks. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the distribution of work, providing technical expertise, and offering guidance to other shop employees under the direction of the manager or supervisor. You'll uphold adherence to Manheim’s Standard Operating Procedures, conducting quality control checks, and addressing any issues that may arise. Additionally, you'll train and instruct new and current employees, assist with inventory management, and ensure that all shop equipment is in optimal condition. Safety is paramount, and you'll be expected to report any concerns promptly and enforce safety protocols. Your leadership skills will be crucial in monitoring staffing levels, reviewing departmental performance, and fostering a respectful and efficient work environment. Ultimately, as a Lead Detail Technician, you'll exemplify professionalism, leadership, and dedication to delivering high-quality work aligned with Manheim standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead adherence to Manheim’s Standard Operating Procedures.

  • Perform quality control checks on all work; notify immediate supervision of exceptional or unsatisfactory work, employee-related problems or other factors hindering work accomplishment.

  • Orient, train and instruct new and current employees regarding job functions/tasks expected of them, when needed.

  • Provide support for estimate content or produces repair estimates as needed.

  • Assist with inventory management and ensures that all shop equipment, supplies and tools are in good, clean working order at all times.

  • Perform work as a producing detail technician for the shop.

  • Responsible for producing quality work output aligned with Manheim quality standards and operating procedures.

  • Report theft, damage, or any/all safety concerns to management.

  • Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such. Work in cooperation with safety leadership in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence. Lead responsibility for safety, compliance with OSHA, EPA and all local codes in conjunction with shop manager.

  • Work with manager to review work volumes, plan and continuously monitor staffing levels to ensure efficiency, quality work product, and effective customer service; review departmental performance against key performance indicators and metrics and develop and execute strategies for improvement.

  • Effectively leads the team at the location by setting an example in behavior, championing Cox/Manheim values and ensuring that all employees are treated with respect.

  • Enforce all company policies and procedures related to employee and customer conduct.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.


  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field.

  • OR the right candidate could also have a different combination, such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline and up to 1 year of experience;

  • OR 5 years’ experience in a related field.

  • Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license required.

  • Ability to drive vehicles with standard and automatic transmission.

  • Ability to work safely in a fast paced environment.

  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Exhibit strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.

  • Must be detail oriented.

  • Ability to enter and exit vehicles frequently.

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat and climb.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds (tools, equipment)

  • Vision abilities required include close, distance and color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

Drug Testing:

To be employed in this role, you'll need to clear a pre-employment drug test. Cox Automotive does not currently administer a pre-employment drug test for marijuana for this position. However, we are a drug-free workplace, so the possession, use or being under the influence of drugs illegal under federal or state law during work hours, on company property and/or in company vehicles is prohibited.


Hourly base pay rate is $19.18 - $28.80/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.


Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, parental leave, and COVID-19 vaccination leave.
