The Director of Environmental Health & Safety/Enterprise Business Continuity will report directly to the AVP of Environmental Health & Safety/Safety/Enterprise Business Continuity. This role is essential for ensuring the ongoing continuity of daily business operations while prioritizing safety initiatives throughout the organization.
The Director will provide leadership and oversight to the Environmental Health and Safety/Enterprise Business Continuity team, managing various projects that address the company’s safety, risk, and business continuity needs. This position involves leading a business continuity team responsible for predicting, defining, and managing responses to potential disruptions, ensuring the availability of core services, critical technology, and communication systems.
Strong organizational, technical, and leadership skills are essential, as the Director will collaborate with cross-functional partners to coordinate effective responses to major events. This role involves developing and managing corporate safety and health programs that align with the overall Safety and Risk strategy. The Director will provide technical support to ensure compliance with safety regulations and will lead efforts to standardize operational processes across Cox Communications.
The ideal candidate should possess exceptional relationship management and strategic leadership skills to achieve both short- and long-term operational objectives and financial goals while maximizing profit potential and delivering exemplary service.
This position requires a strategic and tactical thinker who is action-oriented, capable of envisioning and executing plans while proactively assessing options and their impacts. Additionally, the role demands a skilled, collaborative influencer with a proven track record of building effective relationships across various levels, functions, boundaries, and networks, both internal and external to the company.
The ideal candidate will be expected to work in one of the listed locations with a preference in the Central Time Zone. This is a hybrid role, and the schedule is a mix of work-from-office/work-from-home.
Targeted Focus and Accountability
Safety Management
- Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Create and manage corporate safety and health programs that align with the overall Safety and Risk strategy, ensuring compliance with CEI and legal standards.
- Risk Assessment and Compliance: Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments, providing technical support to regional and corporate personnel to ensure adherence to federal and state safety regulations.
- Training and Engagement: Lead safety training initiatives to promote a culture of safety, ensuring all employees are equipped with the knowledge to maintain a safe working environment.
- Incident Management: Oversee investigations of safety incidents, analyzing root causes and implementing preventive measures to mitigate future risks.
- Sustainability Initiatives: Manage the Cox Impact platform, driving employee engagement with sustainability initiatives and tracking the environmental and economic impacts across all business units.
Business Continuity Planning
- Continuity Strategy Development: Lead the business continuity team in predicting, defining, and managing responses to potential major events that could impact business operations.
- Crisis Management Coordination: Guide a matrixed network of cross-functional partners to ensure a coordinated response during crises, enhancing the organization’s resilience.
- Testing and Improvement: Regularly test and refine business continuity plans through simulations and drills, ensuring readiness for actual events.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with suppliers, industry partners, and community entities to align business continuity strategies with environmental sustainability goals.
Qualifications:
Minimum
- BS/BA degree in a related discipline and 10+ years of relevant experience that includes at least 5 years’ experience in a leadership role. (Alternatively, an MS degree in a related discipline plus 8 years’ relevant experience)
- Relevant experience must include 5 or more years successfully leading operations functions and related field functions (e.g., Environment Health and Safety, Risk Management, Field Service Operations, the Network Operations Center (NOC), Outside Plant Maintenance (OSPM), Outside Plant Construction (OSPC), or Engineering).
- 14 or more years of relevant experience required if candidate does not possess a formal degree
- Strong organizational, technical, process and people management skills required. Able to effectively manage multiple, diverse tasks and adhere to tight deadlines. Proven ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity, and rapid change.
- Demonstrated success understanding of the complexities of matrix management, rapid response, risk management, data center management, vendor management, and infrastructure services.
- Effective at presenting information and responding to questions and/or concerns from management, staff, customers, public groups, regulatory agencies, and/or the Business Committee.
- Solid technical, working understanding of operations, business, finance, analytics, and data modeling
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting process, as well as strong financial and business acumen
- Communicates professionally, effectively, and persuasively with employees/leaders at all levels.
- Must demonstrate tenacity and energy in leading change and an effective work environment.
- Must possess a results-based leadership style with strong impact and influencing skills.
- Relevant experience in Cable or Telecommunications or Supply Chain a plus.
- Proven people leadership experience and effectiveness leading within a remote environment
- Ability to travel required. Estimated 30%.
- Critical thinking and analytical skills, including the capacity to identify, assess and prioritize competing interests and needs.
- Strong motivational and collaboration skills; communicates change effectively, able to overcomes resistance and build commitment.

Preferred
- 5-7 years progressive managerial experience in transferrable disciplines (e.g. information systems, data center operations, network equipment and protocols, and telecommunication technology
- Bachelor’s degree in safety management, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in safety management and business continuity, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, risk management, and business continuity best practices.
- Exceptional organizational, technical, and leadership skills, with a proven ability to manage cross-functional teams.
- Excellent relationship management and collaboration skills.
Compensation:
Compensation includes a base salary of $117,300.00 - $195,500.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
