An Inspector Trainer functions as a lead member of the Inspections team that services our clients at their locations with the primary responsibilities of providing accurate and complete documentation of overall vehicle condition.  More specifically, the documentation provided by the Inspector Trainer is used to support the processing and sale of client/customer cosigned vehicles in lane and online.  A mastery level of understanding and delivery of the following is required:  VIN recognition; proper notation of all options and equipment in vehicle; proper odometer reading and operable function; identification of damage, missing parts, and major mechanical problems; estimating repair cost pricing; pricing parts using Mitchell Collision Estimate Guides (having completed and passed the Mitchell University training course); recommending labor actions, severity, pricing; Identifying value added options; identifying mechanical conditions; identifying common wear and tear; evaluating fluid levels; documenting vehicle condition in writing by completing appropriate Vehicle Condition Report; completing inspections process and data entry in appropriate time frames; collecting digital photos per specific criteria guidelines; test driving (when applicable); determining grade using Manheim’s Grade Scale (when applicable).

General Responsibilities:

  • Verify vehicle information based on work order information – identify the damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems by inspecting all customer vehicles at the time of receipt (i.e., interior, exterior, odometer reading, trunk area, engine compartment), noting any damage or repair to frame/paint, engine noise, AC/heater operation, radio, tire condition, etc.
  • Maintain a clean professional appearance for client facing engagements such as field visits for audits or inspector training.
  • Set up a system for day-end; perform day-end procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge to ensure all policies and procedures are followed
  • Prepare and provide daily activity report to management.
  • Document vehicle condition in writing by completing appropriate Vehicle Condition Report (VCR) and/or computer data entry on a variety of different accounts; able to determine mechanical problems on test drives.
  • Maintain knowledge of system capabilities, knowledge of needed/job-relevant software packages, and web-based applications.
  • Utilize ECR equipment (Brick, PC, Terminal, or PT) correctly describing both damage and equipment.
  • Understanding of NAAA Frame/Structure Damage Policy
  • Ability to take multiple overall and damaged photos, match them to the vehicle, and upload them to server.
  • Able to quickly adapt and implement changes in account-specific frame policies.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods of time; ability to bend, stoop, squat or kneel; ability to lift and hold at least 10 lbs at waist level for an extended period of time; ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Work Environment: 

Exposure to outdoor weather and inclement conditions; moderate noise level; may be exposed to fumes and odors; may be required to work overtime (more than 40 hours per week) as business needs dictate; periods of extended driving in a company car traveling to client locations; Communicating and working with ground teams at client locations to verify and review desired vehicle inventory.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1-3 years experience in the automobile field (inspections, body/mechanic shop, etc.) strongly preferred; 2 years of service with Manheim Inspections recommended.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.  Strong technical aptitude; body, paint and mechanical repair knowledge; mastery of unibody and full-frame vehicles; good organizational skills needed.  Ability to multitask, follow directions and take instructions required. Basic computer skills.
  • Valid driver’s license; safe driving record; successful completion of Manheim ICP Inspector Level IV written/field exam; Basic Inspections (Electronic Condition Report), Vehicle Grading, Repair Recommendations & Frame Merit Certifications required
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods of time; ability to bend, stoop, squat or kneel; ability to lift and hold at least 10 lbs at waist level for an extended period of time; ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Drug Testing:

To be employed in this role, you'll need to clear a pre-employment drug test. Cox Automotive does not currently administer a pre-employment drug test for marijuana for this position. However, we are a drug-free workplace, so the possession, use or being under the influence of drugs illegal under federal or state law during work hours, on company property and/or in company vehicles is prohibited.

Compensation:

Hourly pay rate is $25.05 - $37.60/hour. The hourly rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's experience. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.
