The Senior Video Control Systems Operations Engineer plays a key role in the administration and support of key video control systems within Cox Communications. The position provides tier III support, technical leadership, and technical direction for Cox video control systems and peers responsible for the administration and delivery of the Cox video platform. The position is also responsible for providing advanced video systems administration, incident management, service assurance, maintenance, and fix agent support for Cox video control systems. Supporting guide applications and application servers, Switched Digital Video (SDV), IP Video, Centralized Video Services (CVS) and advanced IPTV video platform and OTT services.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
• Provide end to end Support and Incident Management for Cox’s IPTV and OTT video platforms
• Provide Support for Cox Communication’s MPEG4 Video Delivery Network
• Network Support for all equipment relating to Video Control Systems
• Responsible for video platform accountability and CVS administration
• Provides leadership and mentoring to junior staff members
• Responsible for escalated support of video control systems and video services
• Handles Tier III escalations from SOC, Mission Control in Customer Care, Field Ops, Customer Advocates team, and Tier III Client Team
• Responsible for remedy ticket creation, management, and adherence to MTTR, SLA’s and OLA’s
• Performs systemic diagnosis, correction, and/or escalation preserving the Cox video customer experience
• Provides software support to Application Development and Product Deployment teams
• Acts as communications liaison to business partners (education and information)
• Consults with Cox Engineering, Application Development and Operations Teams
• Supports continuous improvement efforts and lifecycle management of video platform
• Performs spectrum relocation governance and execution
• Live Pay Per View event support
• Provides Residential, Commercial Business, and Cox Media video support
• Lead trouble shooting efforts for system wide video technology incident command
• Narrowcast service group management
• Performs platform maintenance to include daily back up activities, hardware upgrades, daily system health checks
• Provides systems health reporting (availability and reliability)
• Responsible for software upgrades on all Set top box, QAM, QPSK, OM, SBSS’s etc.
• Performs Administrator on-call support
• Open tickets with vendors for video related issues
• Engage vendors, Engineering, and Application Development teams as needed
• Engages in system change management process for collision avoidance and risk assessment
• Leads projects related to the growth, maintenance or upgrade of digital video, IP video and, SDV
• Provides virtual support of video systems architecture and software elements
• Oversees timely and accurate communication between Digital Video Operations and all internal customers
• Develops and implements training and MOP documentation
• Applies security patches and manages software revision control, inventory systems, drivers, and associated databases
• Ensures that technical problems are reported, escalated, and resolved in a timely manner
• Answers user inquiries regarding video network functions and issues identified
• Actively seeks and evaluates opportunities for process improvement
• Assists with the maintenance and growth of MTC server technology
• Assists with the design and R&D of new video products and software
• Performs pre-release testing for new products and software
• Participates in meetings as required
• Ensures the integrity of video back office technology through proactive maintenance, performance monitoring, trending, and reporting
• Administration of server software, firmware, and security administration
Minimum:
• At least 5 years of experience in Cable TV operations
• Knowledge of Digital Broadband Distribution
• Knowledge of Video engineering protocols and delivery systems
• Ability to accommodate a highly flexible and varied work schedule
• Experience in the deployment of advanced video networks and products
• Excellent organizational, analytical, trouble shooting, and problem solving skills
• Experience in RF troubleshooting and MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 protocols
• Knowledge of UNIX, LINUX, and Windows operating systems
• Knowledge of Internet Protocols, RAID systems, and Systems security
• Ability to work well under pressure and commit to meeting strict deadlines
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work with multiple departments to solve complex technical problems
• Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision or guidance
• Ability to speak and hear detailed or important information and instructions
Preferred:
• B.S. in Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
• IP Networking Knowledge and Experience
• Switched Digital Video knowledge and experience
• Project management experience
• Understanding of Cox Video Systems and video applications
• Experience with network protocols, network equipment, and network configuration and troubleshooting
