About the Team
The Lead Software Engineer will be part of the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. The SRE team is an innovative team devoted to providing automated solutions and services for Cox Automotive to measure, evaluate and plan for visible, reliable application delivery.
About the Position
As a member of the SRE team, you will identify and solve problems related to availability, performance, efficiency, monitoring, change management, incident response and capacity planning for your applications. You will create and partner with other development teams to enhance and create solutions to ensure attainment of reliability, performance, and quality goals. The tools and use-cases are diverse, and our challenge is to strive towards operational excellence. Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Be directly involved in operational excellence for the applications you manage
- Have a natural tendency to avoid toil and want to automate it away
- Automate anything and everything! (testing, deploying, monitoring, etc)
- Take complex and not well-defined problem and come up with a technically reasonable solution
- Have innate curiosity about how things work
- Design and assist in the authoring of software tools that reliably manage application delivery & performance
- Design and assist in the setup and maintenance of application monitoring and alerting
- Engage with product/capability engineering teams to ensure best practices are implemented
- Improve predictability and reliability of software releases, workflows, and operating software.
- Reduce application deployment windows by leading company towards a Continuous Deployment environment
- Reduce mean time to recovery (MTTR) by helping troubleshoot, monitor, alert, and automating recovery.
Compensation:
- Compensation includes a base salary of $108,200 – 151,400. Salary may vary outside of the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's experience.
- Position is eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 7+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
- Minimum of 5 years working experience in design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, client-facing web applications, and major Internet-oriented applications and systems
- Working experience realizing applications from conception and design to implementation and support
- Working experience in coding within multiple technology stacks (e.g., Front-end: browser and device typically using common client-side technologies – HTML, CSS, JavaScript; Back-end: server, application, database using languages like PHP, Python, Ruby)
- Working experience with application lifecycle methodologies (e.g., agile, iterative)
- Working experience in analysis, design, and programming
- Working experience with appropriate database technology
- Working experience with monitoring and alerting systems (NewRelic, AppDynamics, Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)
- Working experience and strong conceptual understanding of networking technologies such as TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, HTTP, TLS/SSL, etc.
- Working experience and strong conceptual understanding of Linux or Windows Operating Systems, including server use-cases
- Knowledge of operational practices such as incident response, root cause determination and analysis, corrective/preventative actions
- Working experience using CI/CD tools and techniques
- Working experience using Infrastructure as Code
- Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks
- Experience managing 24×7 high-availability applications, especially in the SaaS model
- Working experience with version control systems (Git or SVN) and branching strategies
- Working experience with at least one cloud computing platform (AWS, Azure, etc.) AWS skills a strong plus
- Excellent written communication, problem solving, and process management skills
- Desire to work in a fast paced, evolving, growing, dynamic environment
What We Look For (preferred):
- Solid conceptual understanding on CI/CD techniques
- Working experience implementing and configuring CI/CD tools and system
- Working experience designing and implementing Infrastructure as Code systems
- Working experience implementing and configuring network devices such as switches, routers, load balancers
- Working experience with networking services such as DNS, NTP, SNMP
- In-depth experience With Windows Server Operating systems including automated deployment, automation technologies (e.g., PowerShell, Puppet, Chef, etc.)
- Working experience with operational metrics such as MTTR, MTTI, SLA/SLO/SLI
