We recently connected with Alex to learn more about the secret to his success at Cox Media Inc and what keeps him busy outside of work.

How did you hear about Cox?
I learned about Cox Media Inc (CMI) after searching the Cox Careers site for openings in Omaha. I applied and was hired for the position of Media Sales Associate with Cox Media Inc. This training program gave me the opportunity to learn the media business in a hands-on way, without the pressure to immediately perform or meet sales goals. Through the teachings of the Sales Associate Program, I was qualified and ready to be promoted and step into an Advertising Account Executive role. After interviewing for and accepting a position as an Advertising Account Executive, I have been focused on meeting sales goals and contributing to our market’s overall digital adoption.

What’s a day-in-the life like?
As an Advertising Account Executive, I’m a part of a real team environment. A typical day for me involves communicating with clients both over the phone, on email and in-person. The position affords you freedom to organize your own time however you feel most effective. I consider myself a resource for my clients and a true outlet for information and insight.

With any sales organization, there is competition, but we are not fighting for bigger slices of the same pie so we really celebrate and value each other’s wins. From day-one, I have always felt welcomed and as if I was an important member of the team. One thing I love about our company culture is that we value and champion diversity and individuality.

Tell us about your career development.
My manager has always been focused on my development and career advancement. I will never forget when she told me that she sees no bigger accomplishment than having one of her team members be promoted and advance in their own career path. The team is also structured in a way that you have multiple layers of support and expertise to fall back on whenever you need assistance.

What advice would you give a job seeker searching for a job with Cox Media?
Be yourself! Your unique quirks and talents will be polished and valued here at Cox Media.

Share what you enjoy doing outside of work.
Before the pandemic, I was training to compete in bodybuilding competitions. This required undying time management skills. Most people would assume that consistency in the gym or discipline in the kitchen are the most difficult aspects of fitness. What I learned through my competition prep was that the most difficult aspect of bodybuilding was finding enough time in the day to lift weights for 3 hours, run or do cardio for 1 hour, eat 6+ meals, and sleep at least 8 hours every night…. all while working a full-time job with CMI! Though I haven’t been able to maintain my workout schedule, I have been able to use my newfound time management skills to stay productive while working from home!

I am also the proud father of an 11 lb. miniature poodle, named Eevee. My other hobbies include digital art, drone photography, and tending to my lawn (I recently purchased my first home). And there is nothing fictional about my fantasy football addiction!
