Finding Hope and Healing at Cox

As senior director of presentation and video production at Cox Enterprises, Amanda Atkins is in the business of telling powerful stories.
But when a life-threatening illness required Amanda to get a lung transplant, she embarked on an emotional and transformative story of her own.
At the end of 2021, Amanda developed a cough that persisted for six months. A chest X-ray revealed that Amanda had interstitial lung disease, a group of lung disorders that lead to inflammation and scarring of the lungs.
This diagnosis meant that Amanda needed a lung transplant in order to survive.
Through months of consultation, testing, waiting on the transplant list, surgery and physical rehabilitation, Amanda undertook a frightening journey that few of us will ever personally experience. She did so with grace, determination and the support of her family, friends and colleagues at Cox.
“Nobody expects to go through something like I’ve gone through, but I found that Cox literally helped me up the entire time,” Amanda said. “Being at Cox was exactly where I needed to be for myself personally and professionally.”
The transplant was successful, and Amanda is now facing the future with renewed optimism and an unwavering dedication to doing what she loves.
“I chose to come back after having major surgery because I like what I do,” she said. “And I do think I have a platform here where I can actually make progress on my purpose.”
