Cox Automotive, part of the Cox family of businesses, continues to maintain its industry leading position by completing the first-ever new car sale entirely online within the United States.

This is a revolutionary step in innovating for the future. Cox's technology powers a true ecommerce shopping cart experience for customers, allowing them to:

  • Shop and buy new vehicles 100% online.
  • Select eligible rebates and incentives.
  • Put the vehicle into a shopping cart.
  • Complete the transaction with remote signature.

About the sale

Jeff Wyler Automotive Family utilized Cox Automotive Ecommerce, which guides consumers through the online vehicle buying process with AI-powered shopping features and finance automation. The vehicle sold was a Dodge Charger, and the deal was signed at 11:15 pm on a Wednesday when the dealership and banks were closed.

Watch this video with Paulo da Silva, Vice President of Cox Automotive Ecommerce Operations, and the marketing director at Jeff Wyler Automotive to learn more about how this 100% online transaction truly is an automotive industry first.

Innovation in action

This sale is the first new car transaction completed through ecommerce, without any human interaction – a true industry first. But it's not the first step in digital automotive retailing for Cox Automotive; the company has celebrated many industry firsts with ecommerce, including:

  • February 2022: First 100% online used car transaction
  • March 2023: First 100& online used car transaction with finance + contract automation
  • July 2023: First 100% online used car transaction on Autotrader, a Cox Automotive brand

Other companies have leveraged digital-first retail buying experiences for new cars, but their processes still require customer interactions for trade-ins, financing and contracting. Cox Automotive Ecommerce provides a fully automated process that supports the entire new vehicle purchasing process.

While most customers still prefer an assisted purchase experience with human interaction, Cox Automotive Ecommerce is built as a fully self-guided experience first, with the option to ask for assistance.

Cox Automotive Ecommerce is currently piloting new vehicle/certified pre-owned offerings in beta; previously, this was a service only offered for used vehicles. Exciting things are on the horizon for Cox Automotive and the world of ecommerce!
