Making an Impact: The James M. Cox Foundation

Jim Kennedy — chairman emeritus of Cox Enterprises, chairman of the James M. Cox Foundation and a noted philanthropist — continues to lead how we support different causes as chairman of the James M. Cox Foundation.
When the James M. Cox Foundation was formed in the late 1950s, its purpose was to support communities in which Cox Enterprises has a presence. Today, the Foundation concentrates its support in the following priority areas: conservation and environment, early childhood education, health and empowering families and individuals.
Donations like the $25 million grant to Emory University to transform the patient-centered care model, and the recent $30 million donation to help complete the Atlanta BeltLine, are examples of how Jim’s passion for helping others and our communities continues to this day.
One of the most remarkable aspects of our 125-year history is that Cox remains a family business. Our founder’s vision and values now span four generations, a rare feat only 3% of family businesses achieve. And a huge part of our company’s story — why and where we are today — is due to the leadership of Jim Kennedy, chairman emeritus of Cox Enterprises and chairman of the James M. Cox Foundation. These are only a few of the significant accomplishments Jim has achieved.
