Candy Rawson had over a decade of experience in the automotive repair industry before she joined Cox Automotive in 2012. At the time, she joined as a coordinator at a brand-new in-house fleet maintenance department responsible for servicing Cox Communications’ vehicles.

Over the years, Candy has helped oversee the day-to-day operations at the Hampton Roads, VA fleet offices, including managing growth from mergers and acquisitions in the department. Today, Candy is a senior fleet operations support specialist.

“It’s just evolved over the years with more duties, more tasks and finetuning different programs, to better manage the Cox Communications vehicles,” she said. “My main priority is keeping these vehicles up to date on their maintenance, in compliance with their state inspections and back on the road.”

Here, Candy shared her top reasons why she thinks Cox is a great place to build a long-term career:

  1. The people you work with. One of the reasons Candy loves her job at Cox is because of the people she gets to work with every day. “I love my coworkers, and I’m very thankful that I work for such a family-based company,” she said.
  2. Growth opportunities. “This company is constantly evolving the people around it to better their lives in every way,” Candy said. “The opportunities are endless and nobody’s going to hold you back from excelling.”
  3. Feeling valued as an employee. Candy said that even though her department is a small team within a very large enterprise, she’s been pleasantly surprised by how her team has been noticed by leaders at the company (including the CEO). “We’re behind the scenes, but we do get recognition and praise. It’s just nice when our entire group gets recognized. We excel at our numbers and our KPIs.”
  4. Caring leadership. Over the years, Candy has seen how leaders step up for people. One very clear example was when a coworker passed away unexpectedly, and they “immediately sent an HR group here to help us with our grief,” she said.

“When you’re in your 20s, you’re just thinking about your paycheck,” Candy said. “But as you’re set in your career, you start thinking, ‘Do I want to work for these people in 10 years? Do I want to retire from this place?’”

For Candy, it’s a definite yes.
