5 Reasons I Chose to Start My Post-Grad Career at Cox

When I was getting ready to enter the workforce a couple years ago, I felt the same pressure many new grads do: move fast, take the first good offer and figure the rest out later.
But I didn’t want my career to feel rushed. I wanted it to feel right.
I was looking for a place where I could grow, be challenged and still have a life outside of work — where people are trusted, values matter and success doesn’t come at the cost of burnout.
So as graduation got closer, I promised myself I’d wait for the right fit.
That decision led me to Cox.
I started here as a summer intern in 2023, continued working part-time while finishing my senior year and eventually stepped into my full-time role on the corporate communications team at Cox Automotive. Along the way, I had other opportunities, but I turned them down. And looking back, I can confidently say that choosing Cox for my post-grad career is one of the best decisions I’ve made.
Here’s why it was worth the wait.
1. The people: a culture of genuine care and compassion
When I first joined Cox, I heard people describe the culture and assumed it was just a talking point, until I experienced it firsthand.
During my time here, I’ve had the privilege to work under three different managers, and each one has made a lasting impact on me — not just professionally, but personally.
My team trusts me, supports me and shows they care in ways that go beyond big milestones or formal recognition. They check in when my workload feels heavy. They encourage me to head out early to beat traffic. They make sure my efforts are recognized and appreciated across leadership. And that’s just the start.
That kind of environment creates space to do your best work and to grow with confidence. That level of respect and trust can’t be manufactured; they’re built into the culture. And it’s one of the biggest reasons Cox feels like more than just a place to work.
“My team trusts me to manage my time and responsibilities and make decisions that work best for both my role and my life. That level of autonomy has been empowering, especially this early in my career.”
2. The work: startup energy with corporate backing
One of the biggest surprises for me has been the work itself. At Cox Automotive, teams move quickly and think ahead. People actively try new things, test ideas and challenge the status quo. That willingness to experiment and pioneer better ways of working encourages creativity, learning and real impact.
At the same time, I have the resources, stability and support of a well-established company behind me. I’ve been able to work across a wide range of projects, stretch my skill set and continue learning new things along the way. No two days look the same, and that combination of innovation and support has helped me grow faster than I ever expected this early in my career.
3. The benefits: trust, flexibility and real balance
Unlimited PTO and flexible work are more than benefits to me; they’re a sign of trust.
At Cox, my team trusts me to manage my time and responsibilities and make decisions that work best for both my role and my life. That level of autonomy has been empowering, especially this early in my career.
Having a team that values outcomes over hours has made a real difference. It allows me to recharge when I need to, show up fully when it matters most and maintain a good balance without any guilt. I also appreciate the freedom to travel the world and experience life outside of work, knowing I have the flexibility and support to do so. For example, when my boyfriend and I had the opportunity to go on a 10-day trip to South Korea last year, my manager and director were genuinely excited for me and encouraged me to take the time I needed to make it work.
The level of trust I have with my team and leaders creates a healthier, more sustainable way to build a career, and it’s something I don’t take for granted.
4. The future: growth at scale, with support
Cox is a large company, and that scale brings opportunity in a way few places can. There are countless teams, disciplines and paths to explore across the country, which means you can grow and evolve without having to leave the organization to do it. What makes that scale meaningful, though, is the focus on people.
Here, leaders actively invest in mentorship and connection. I’ve met with leaders who generously share their time, offer guidance and help me think intentionally about my career. Building relationships across teams and learning from people with different backgrounds and experiences has played a huge role in my growth.
Even within a company this big, I feel connected, supported and confident about where I’m headed next.
5. The values: A mission I believe in, led with intention
If I’m going to spend 40 hours each week working for a company, I want to believe in its mission and the people leading it. During my time at Cox, I’ve had several opportunities to hear our CEO, Alex Taylor, speak — and what stands out each time isn’t just what he says, but the intention behind it.
He consistently talks about building a better future for the next generation, not just growing a successful business. That perspective resonates with me, and I see it reflected in how Cox invests in its people, supports its communities and thinks about the long-term impact of the work we do.
I truly believe this company is following through on its promises. Being part of an organization that is thinking beyond today and intentionally building toward something better makes the work feel meaningful and makes me proud to establish my career here.
“I’m so proud of the work I get to do here and grateful to be building my career at a company that genuinely cares about where it’s headed and the people it brings along.”
Finding the right place for you
Starting a career looks different for everyone, and there’s no single right path. What mattered most to me was finding a place where I could grow, feel supported and do something meaningful while still honoring the life I was building outside of work.
At Cox, I found exactly that: A team that trusts me, challenges me and invests in my growth for the long term. That foundation shapes how I show up every day and how I think about my future. I’m so proud of the work I get to do here and grateful to be building my career at a company that genuinely cares about where it’s headed and the people it brings along.
Turning down other offers wasn’t easy. But looking back, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. My career wasn’t rushed. It was chosen. And it was absolutely worth the wait.
