3 Ways RapidScale Gets the Workplace Experience Right

If you’re like me, you’ve worked in all kinds of roles — across different industries, teams environments. Each one shapes how we see workplace culture, how we fit in and what’s expected of us. But few experiences have influenced my view on the power of culture as much as my time at RapidScale (part of the Cox family of businesses).
Sure, we’ve all had those jobs where the company’s values are plastered on the walls, echoed in every meeting and baked into presentations — relentlessly reinforced, but rarely lived. In my 25-plus years in the workforce (and no, I won’t reveal the exact number — this is a blog, not a confession), I’ve never experienced a culture like RapidScale’s. It’s not manufactured; it flows naturally from the top down. It’s not just a set of ideals; it’s how we operate.
The difference? This culture is lived, not imposed.
So how has being part of this kind of environment changed me? Here are my top three reasons for celebrating RapidScale’s culture.
1. I’ve found a work-life balance that actually works.
It is one thing to manage my own schedule, but add in a partner and two kids, and my brain goes on the fritz. The demands packed into our (very short) 24-hour days can be overwhelming. Juggling it all sometimes feels like a full-time job in itself. That’s why having a strong support system — both at home and at work — is essential to maintain my sanity and meeting life’s expectations with some measure of grace.
Family has been at the heart of Cox for more than 125 years. You see it in the way leaders connect with their teams, treating everyone with dignity, respect and a genuine desire to understand. That mindset flows through every level of the organization. Here, we celebrate wins at work and at home.
In the last two years I’ve been working for RapidScale, I’ve been able to:
- Join my son for several school events and field trips.
- Adjust my work hours to care for my young daughter when she woke up with an ear infection and needed a morning urgent care visit.
- Say “yes” when my 95-year-old grandfather texted me and asked if I was available for lunch or a coffee date.
- Enjoy a rare North Carolina snow day with my kids, cuddled up on the couch watching movies while I worked on my laptop — no PTO needed.
These are just a few examples of how RapidScale shows up for its people. For so many of us who are balancing the care of children, aging parents or others who rely on us, it’s a huge relief to work somewhere where leaders understand that life happens — and you don’t have to feel guilty when it does!
2. I’ve joined a team that truly has my back.
We hear it all the time: the importance of working together toward a common goal for the good of our clients and the company. But in many workplaces, true collaboration is sporadic at best, with only a few teams managing to operate cross-functionally in a meaningful way. Rarely does that spirit of teamwork extend across departments and into daily decision-making.
At RapidScale, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing something different: a sense of camaraderie that runs deep. Like a river flowing through a valley, fueling growth all around it, there’s a shared understanding here: collaboration leads to bigger wins, smarter solutions and sparks real innovation.
But let’s take that idea a step further: what does it look like when a workplace shows up for you during a personal crisis?
In January 2024, after nearly 20 years with one company, my husband was unexpectedly laid off. No transfer options, no soft landing. Anyone who’s been in the job market recently knows how tough it’s been — one job fair he attended had more than 3,000 people in attendance. As the months passed and the financial strain grew, my team at RapidScale rallied around us:
- Several colleagues offered to review my husband’s resume, give feedback and share it with their networks.
- One sent over their LinkedIn profile and offered to personally make an introduction to any of their connections.
- Others checked in regularly, offering empathy, encouragement and a listening ear.
- And when my husband finally got a job offer — just two days before Christmas — they celebrated the good news with us!
That kind of support goes far beyond collaboration. It’s a reminder that when a company cares about its people, they show up during life’s hardest and happiest moments.
3. I’ve taken my career growth to the next level.
Many organizations claim to provide growth opportunities: chances to sharpen your skills, collaborate cross-functionally and connect with mentors. But few deliver on that promise with the level of opportunities that I’ve found within RapidScale and the broader Cox family of businesses.
For example, I’ve been able to participate in a mix of live and online trainings, including the Prosci methodology for change management, FranklinCovey’s “The 5 Choices to Extraordinary Productivity” and human-centered design practitioner training, just to name a few.
But learning here goes beyond the classroom. Programs like Cox Gigs allow employees to take on project-based work across departments to gain experience in new areas and expand their skill sets. Networking is another important part of the employee experience here. From employee resource groups (ERGs) that foster meaningful community, to RandomCoffee pairings that spark connections across the organization, to volunteer opportunities that bring us closer together around causes that matter, there are countless ways to build relationships and grow together.
If you’re looking for a rewarding and exciting career, I encourage you to explore job openings at RapidScale and across the Cox family of businesses. There are so many opportunities to make an impact within a company that has spent more than 125 years building a better future.
