Good Vibes Only: An Inside Look at Cox’s Annual Spring Social

A valuable lesson I’ve learned during my time at Cox is the importance of building genuine relationships with the people I work with each day. While it surely helps strengthen our collaboration, it also brings a sense of joy and comfort knowing that you’re surrounded by people you feel connected to on a deeper level.

Cox makes it possible to enjoy moments of real connection with coworkers beyond your typical networking experiences and coffee chats (although we certainly enjoy those as well!). Through different types of employee events and activities hosted at Cox, we all have the opportunity to meet people from different parts of the company and share moments of joy and connection that have nothing to do with our day jobs.

On any given day, you could walk through any of our offices and stumble upon a volunteer event in action or a spontaneous corn hole match on our green spaces. These moments aren’t just fun; they’re the heartbeat of our culture.

One of the most anticipated employee events of the year at our Atlanta headquarters is the spring social, a company celebration that feels like a scene from a dream. Picture this: strolling through outdoor greenspaces with sunshine warming your face, savoring sweet treats like ice cream and cotton candy, grooving to upbeat music, playing arcade and lawn games and winning raffle gifts.

Beyond the treats and tunes, the spring social is a chance to reconnect — with coworkers you haven’t seen in a while, with programs you’ve been meaning to explore and, most importantly, with the joy of simply being present with one another. It’s a few hours to step away from the hustle and just be together.

A time to strengthen bonds

The spring social event is set up across several indoor and outdoor spaces at our Atlanta campus so it’s impossible to miss! It’s an ideal time to take a break from work and go spend time with your team — or catch up with a colleague you haven’t seen in a while.

I’ve found that when we take the time to truly get to know our coworkers, we create a more supportive and enjoyable work environment. That sense of camaraderie can ease the strain of tackling new projects or joining unfamiliar teams. It’s the little things that bring us closer, and these moments of downtime can reveal shared interests, spark new ideas and build bonds that make our workdays brighter.

A chance to build community and explore employee programs

We often hear how important it is to make connections at work, but where do you start? One great way is by exploring programs designed to bring people together, like employee resource groups (ERGs) — peer-led groups that are open to all employees — and other employee programs and initiatives.

The spring social brings together all these different opportunities in one place. Employees can visit different program booths and chat with the volunteers to identify the right opportunities to grow their networks and careers.

For example: if you love meeting new people and chatting in a one-on-one setting, you can sign up for the RandomCoffee program. It’s a delightful way to meet someone new from across the organization. And these casual in-person or virtual meetups can lead to meaningful conversations and unexpected friendships — and even help boost your career in the process

If your focus is on career growth, you can learn about Cox’s mentorship program, where you get paired with a leader who can help guide your journey. It’s a chance to gain insights, expand your network and grow in ways you never imagined.

Whether you’re attending a lively event like our spring social or diving into an employee program, there are so many ways to get involved and build meaningful connections here at Cox. It’s this spirit of togetherness that makes Cox such a special place to work — and that shared sense of community that turns coworkers into collaborators, and colleagues into friends.
