Cox is well known in Las Vegas Valley, most often for the work we do within Cox Communications as the nation’s fastest internet provider. And that’s the side of the business I’ve most familiar with in my role as an account executive — until I met members from the fleet services team on the Cox Automotive side during a local volunteer event.
We met while volunteering for Cox at the Gilcrease Orchard, a historic Las Vegas landmark and nonprofit, where families can bring their children to pick fresh produce off the tree or vine and learn where our food comes from. The fleet team and I built new raised garden beds for this unique educational experience in our local community. They impressed me with their dedication to their community with volunteerism and it made me curious to learn more about them and what they do.
The fleet services team based in North Las Vegas is responsible for fixing and fine-tuning our Cox Communications trucks, cars and utility vehicles to get back on the road and service the Las Vegas community. This amazing team is led by Logan Mathos, supervisor of vehicle maintenance, who graciously invited me to visit their offices.
When you enter the vehicle maintenance offices at lunchtime, you are greeted with laughter coming from the lunchroom where everyone is having fun while at their midday meal. The friendly atmosphere evokes a reminder of Cox’s enviable work environment and award-winning culture.
Logan loves his team and takes every opportunity to show them off and speak highly of their expertise as we tour the facility. Logan is also proud of the work he and his team are a part of at Cox. For example, he’s excited about how the company continues to invest in electric vehicles (fun fact: our California market has inaugurated Cox’s first all-electric fleet).
During my visit, I was able to see a new electric truck wrapped in the spirited “Cox Mobile” emblem — a picture of modern vehicle technology! Logan talked to me about how Cox is leading the way in sustainability, especially with their move to more environmentally friendly tires. He also shared insights on the advanced technology it takes to achieve the environmental impact we need for the future. Logan is like a vehicle maintenance encyclopedia, so some of what he explained went over my head, but I still enjoyed learning from him.
He showed me the award the team just received for advancing to platinum status for our Zero Waste initiative.
“We are accountable for everything coming in and going out,” he said, including plastic, electrical, liquid and solid waste.
To put it in Las Vegas lingo, fleet services hits the trifecta: a team that truly cares for one another, a workplace filled with joy and a company that supports it all.
