For our communities. For our planet. For the greater good.

At Cox, our commitment to sustainability and community impact is more than a business strategy — it’s the heart of who we are. For more than 127 years, we’ve been basing our business practices and everyday actions on this simple credo: “Do the right thing, always.”

Doing the right thing means conserving natural resources, making sustainable choices, helping communities stay connected, empowering career success, championing STEAM education and so much more. Through responsible company actions, financial support and individual impact, we are securing a brighter future for generations to come.

Advancing clean energy, recycling and EV technologies

Invested $150 million in Nexus Circular, an advanced plastics and recycling company at the center of the circular economy—transforming hard-to-recycle everyday items like plastic bags, Styrofoam, and bubble wrap into core components for new products. This commitment to sustainability extends beyond plastics, as Cox Automotive is now one of the largest EV battery recyclers in the world.

Protecting nature and biodiversity

Since 2011, Cox and the James M. Cox Foundation have donated $155M to environmental and conservation causes to preserve natural habitats.

Partnering for greener communities

Since 2020, 1.35M people have benefitted from a better environment through our 34 by 34 social goal.

Reducing our carbon, water and waste footprint

Invested more than $165 million into 500+ sustainability and conservation projects, including 54 alternative energy projects.

Diverted 850 million pounds of waste from landfills since 2013 and achieved zero waste to landfill in 2024.

Growing healthy food sustainably

Pioneering in greenhouse farming, producing non-GMO, fresh and clean vine crops and leafy greens using less water and less land with a year-round growing season.

Through Cox Conserves, our national sustainability program launched in 2007, we’re driving meaningful progress toward ambitious goals for energy conservation, water conservation, waste diversion and recycling and community engagement.

A zero-waste business

In 2024, Cox became the first U.S.-based, enterprisewide service company recognized by Zero Waste USA as a Zero Waste Business, achieving a 92% diversion rate that was verified by GreenCircle Certified. But we’re not finished yet, and we'll continue to set new benchmarks in sustainability.

*The Zero Waste by 2024 achievement excludes acquisitions since 2021 and international locations.

Volunteering and giving back

We believe in the power of giving back. That’s why we offer paid volunteer hours and create opportunities for employees to make an impact together. Whether we’re cleaning up parks or sparking kids’ interest in STEAM, one thing’s for sure — when you see the blue Cox volunteer shirt in your community, good things are happening!

34 by 34

Through our social impact initiative, known as 34 by 34, we’re empowering 34 million people to live more prosperous lives by 2034. We’re working together to make a difference in six key pathways: technology access, access to lifelong education, employment skills, social equity, environmental sustainability and good health.
