Where Marketing Meets Music: Living Authentically at Cox
Creativity is the constant drumbeat in Elizabeth Saulsbury’s life: whether on a stage, in a recording booth or in her job at Cox.
Elizabeth is Senior Manager, Content & Social Media at Cox Enterprises — a role where she exercises both strategic and artistic passions to articulate and promote Cox’s brand story. She’s also a songwriter and musician, with three studio albums and a regular schedule of gigs.
Elizabeth explains that at Cox, she is encouraged to explore her musical ambitions in addition to her marketing ones.
“I get the best of both worlds,” Elizabeth said. “I’m able to lead as a brand and marketing professional and earn a great living, while also writing, recording and performing music.”
Creativity and authenticity are central to Cox’s workplace. Employees are empowered to have fun, stay curious and pursue their interests…musical or otherwise.
What’s more, career and personal pursuits don’t have to be siloed. Elizabeth brings her musical side to her day job at Cox, both as a solo performer and as a member of Cox’s company band, The Mondays. This all-employee band performs at company events and even released an album for Cox’s 125th anniversary in 2023 — and it’s a good example of how employees lean into creativity at work.
“I have the time and flexibility I need to pursue music, but it’s about so much more than work-life balance,” Elizabeth said. “It’s also about leaders genuinely caring and showing their support. My leaders and coworkers frequently attend my shows, stream my music or just express an interest in how my music is going. It means a lot to me.”
For Elizabeth, the average workday includes a mix of both music and marketing. She might play a set at Cox’s campus coffee shop to start the day, spent mid-morning in a content brainstorming session with her team, practice with The Mondays during her lunch break and spend the rest of the day working on a research presentation.
It’s a schedule that’s buzzing with creative energy. And that’s the way she likes it.
