New Year’s Resolutions: How Tara Wallace Made 2024 Her Year

New Year's Resolution 4

I’m a fan of New Year’s resolutions. Whether it’s trying to be healthier or save money, I like that we all set some kind of intention for the year ahead.

Around this time last year, I took time to reflect and decided that 2024 was going to be my year of growth and wellness. With these two goals in mind, I knew Cox would be able to provide me with the tools I needed to succeed.

My first goal was all about professional growth. I’ve been working toward reaching a leadership position, and I asked my supervisor for specific advice on how I can practice and develop my leadership skills. I know that being a leader is a lot more than just being in charge — it’s about being someone your team can depend on. I want to be the kind of leader who helps others learn and grow and teach them through my actions, not just words.

At my supervisor’s suggestion, I took on the task of helping one of my newer teammates who was having a little trouble with a few of our processes. I was able to effectively help her learn those processes and gain confidence in her skills and knowledge as well. For me, seeing her thrive was the most rewarding thing. The lesson here, for me, was that I want to lead and help other agents succeed right alongside me. I also learned that it’s okay to ask others for help or reach out to others who need support and extend a helping hand.

The second goal I set for myself was to focus on my health. I have never been one to really take my own health seriously and go to doctor’s appointments for checkups. Last year, I participated in Cox’s Know Your Numbers event, where a healthcare team is available on-site for preventive healthcare screenings. I hadn’t participated before, but I just happened to be in the office that day and I figured I might as well get checked out. When I received the results from my bloodwork, I was motivated to go see a primary care doctor for the first time in years. As it turned out, I have Type 2 Diabetes, which explained so much!

From there, my doctor helped me come up with a treatment plan and I was able to get on a healthy diet and start a workout regimen that I’ve been sticking to this year. I learned how to prepare meals that are good for me without sacrificing taste while managing my diabetes, and I lost 50 pounds in the process. For the first time in my adult life, I achieved my goal of being healthy, and I don’t think I would’ve done any of it had it not been for the Know Your Numbers event.

This year brought about many changes in my life and many opportunities to learn and grow as a person. I was able to chart a clear path for the future I want for myself professionally and personally. Working here at Cox has many, many benefits, but my favorites by far are the career growth opportunities and all the medical benefits we have access to. I’m so glad that I was able to make the most of the tools and benefits that Cox offers to better myself and further my career. I feel so lucky to say that I am starting off my fourth year with this awesome company in the best way possible: feeling happy, healthy and absolutely ready to take on the world!
