Why listen to me, you might ask? Great question.
I’m an HR pro with 15 years of experience helping people succeed in the world of work, and more importantly, I’m a member of Cox’s onboarding team. That means I’m one of the people who works diligently behind the scenes to make sure every new Cox employee has an amazing journey from the moment they accept their job offer with us.
If you’ve ever been new at a company, you’ve probably sat through a boring or pointless PowerPoint presentation — or worse, been thrown into a job without any preparation in what felt like a “sink or swim” environment.
The new hire experience at Cox is nothing like that. I speak for the entire team when I say our goal is to provide a rewarding experience that reaffirms you made the right choice by choosing to join us.
We put a lot of thought and effort into making sure your first day is entertaining, insightful and downright fun. Here’s what to expect from your new-hire experience.
A warm welcome and first-day fun
It’s completely normal if you’re feeling those first-day jitters, but don’t worry! My team will be there to put them to rest before lunchtime.
All new hires based in the Atlanta area will attend a welcome session at our beautiful corporate campus. If you’re a fully remote employee or based in a different location, you’ll join us later in the day for our virtual onboarding sessions.
As you’re walking into the office on the morning of your first day, you’ll immediately find me or my manager Chad Prosser waiting to greet you at our welcome table in the main lobby.
You’ll enjoy free treats from our campus coffee shop, Jolt. You’ll participate in fun activities throughout the morning and enjoy a free lunch in the café. You’ll also get a campus tour and spend time in our Discovery Center, our mini museum that showcases Cox’s legacy of innovation and community impact during the past 125+ years. You’ll be paired with a buddy for the day to give you special attention and answer any burning questions.
Interactive info sessions
Up next, you’ll meet another member of the onboarding team: Alexa Ortman, who’ll kick off the first of our onboarding session, where you’ll learn some cool highlights of the company’s history in an interactive game-show style activity. One fun fact you’ll want to remember: Cox started out as a newspaper business in Dayton, OH.
Our second session focuses on all things perks and benefits with experts from our benefits teams. When you’re enrolling for your benefits, you’ll also have a cool self-guided tool to help you decide between different plans and options. During these virtual onboarding sessions, you’ll also meet Tanya Huey, who supports us from afar in Phoenix, AZ.
Cox offers so many additional perks that it would be impossible to cover every single benefit on the call. But don’t worry, we’ll share information for you to discover everything in the weeks to come. For example, with our pet insurance benefit, we’ve got your four-legged family members covered!
Whew! That was a lot. Now that you’ve made it through your first day, you’ll spend the rest of the week getting to know your team and getting up to speed in your new role with the help of your manager.
A sneak peek into what’s next
After your first day, your manager will be your guide: introducing you to your teammates and connecting you to any job-specific resources. But this isn’t the last you’ll hear from us on the onboarding team!
We’ll continue to send you information on all things Cox, including the chance to pick your own welcome gift. Plus, you’ll receive an invite to chat with our chairman and CEO Alex Taylor. No matter where you’re based, you’ll get a chance to hear from Alex and ask him about any topic. No question is too big or small!
